When bringing a new baby home, you may already know that you have to have your child’s car seat before they will let the baby go. With so many choices for every age, picking an infant seat through a child booster seat, it may seem overwhelming to find the right one. While you may be tempted to go with the color or design, make sure that you look for certain safety features on your children’s car seats.
The most important thing to remember when shopping for an infant seat or child booster seat is that this is one thing you don’t want to buy pre-owned. Being in even a small motor vehicle incident can compromise the integrity of a car seat. You will also not know if the seat has been recalled for any known safety issues. If you are shopping consignment and thrift sales, many baby items are fine, but not car seats.
You need to start shopping for car seats months before your delivery date. Remember however, that pretty pink and blue patterns may be pleasing to the eye yet cannot do anything to keep your child safe.
The design of infant seats is especially for infants. They are rear-facing seats. You need to leave them in rear facing positions for as long as you can. You need to read and follow the manufacturers details for the seat. Most of them can safely hold 20 pounds or at least up to a one-year-old child. Petite children should stay in a rear facing position until the baby grows to become one inch below the head of the car seat.
Some of the rear facing car seats are convertible, which means they will face forward once your baby gets a little bigger. Make sure that you keep it in the correct position for the age and weight of your little one, even though it is designed for a broad range of weight, usually up to 40 pounds. If you don’t have a convertible seat, you will have to purchase a newer seat once your infant outgrows the first. Children in elementary school are still required to use a child booster seat in many states.
To ensure the proper fit, you need to measure from the ceiling to the seat as well as the width of the area you will place the seat in the backseat. You do not want your child to touch the car ceiling. You will need room to reach around to calm your child at times, so make sure the child has enough space.
Do some research to learn about the car seat safety features for any model that you are interested in buying. Check to make sure there are no complaints or recalls listed.
You need to make sure that the car seat is properly installed. The seat should not move more than about an inch either way. If you are concerned that your child’s car seat is not properly installed, check with the hospital or police department to have someone show you how to properly install the seat.
You want a properly installed car seat that is suitable for you, your baby and your car. This will help lessen the stress of caring for your child in the years to come.

They can continue to use this car seat until they reach 100 pounds. This booster seat is designed to be the child’s last car seat and will fit them until they no longer need a car seat of any kind.
The Britax Frontier is safe and stylish. It was designed to be a visually appealing and highly safe car seat. Over the years Britax has added many safety features to this line, long before they were required. They did this to ensure the protection of every child. The combination of the HUGS system, Premium Latch Connectors, and Energy Absorbing Versa Tethers minimize movement in case of accident. Less movement means the child is less likely to be injured.
HUGS is a rubber enhancement to the traditional strap harness. Officially called the Harness Ultra Guard System, Hugs uses soft rubber dampeners on the safety harness. These lightweight harnesses covers aren’t noticed by the child, but their presence is felt in an accident. The HUGS increase friction between the child and the harness, decreasing movement and making the harnesses more effective.
Booster seats are all designed with a slightly smaller base than traditional car seats. This makes them more likely to move from side to side when using a regular seat belt to secure them in place. The Premium LATCH connectors in the Britax Frontier attach the car seat directly to the car. These connectors prevent wobbling or move when proper installed.
Energy Absorbing Versa Tether- In addition to the Premium LATCH Connectors, the Britax Frontier is equipped with an Energy Absorbing Versa Tether. This tether system secures the upper portion of the seat preventing the tipping or tilting effect seen in many car seats during an accident.
The Britax Frontier includes several smart features that make the child more comfortable without sacrificing safety. The Cushioned arm rests are a great example. These arm rests are comfortable to the child because of the padding, but they also increase safety. These arm rests provide additional security by preventing side to side movement.

Britax Frontier is one of the most popular booster seats on the market today. It is so popular because of the high number of safety features found in this seat. This seat is smaller than a traditional convertible car seat, but includes many of the same safety features found in the larger seats. For instance, Britax believes that a safety seat that is easy to install is more likely to be installed correctly. Because of this belief, they have included a color coded vehicle belt guide in the Britax Frontier. This ensures the child will be as secure as possible and avoids improper installation.
Children can start using this booster seat when they turn 2 years old and weight 25 pounds. Children can stay in this car seat even when they reach 100 pounds! This booster seat is made to last for children from toddler years until they do not need a car seat anymore!
Since this car seat is designed for larger children it requires additional safety features not found in many car seats intended for babies or infants. To minimize movement and ensure maximum protection, the Britax Frontier includes several key safety features, such as, HUGS system, Premium Latch Connectors, and Energy Absorbing Versa Tethers.
Harness Ultra Guard System – Also known as “HUGS”. The HUGS system is a rubber safety device attached into the harness straps. They are made of rubber and create friction to help prevent injury if in a vehicle accident. HUGS works similar to break pads on a car, they slow do the child’s movement preventing injury.
Securing a car seat using traditional seat belts is troublesome. Done incorrectly, this approach allows any car seat to move wildly in case of an accident. The Premium LATCH Connectors secure directly to the car increasing stability and preventing side to side movement.
The multiple color choices and unique design makes the Britax Frontier an attractive car seat. However, after a few weeks of wear and tear from a confined toddler, any car seat will be covered with crumbs and other messes that can only come from a toddler. To keep this seat looking sharp, Britax included a key comfort feature for the parents, removable, machine washable car seat covers. The cover in the Britax Frontier pops off and can go right into the washer, keeping it as good as new.
With safety, appearance and comfort features abound, it’s no wonder the Britax Frontier is one of the most popular booster seats available. This booster seat will keep your child safe. It will last until there’s no need for a booster seat. When it’s time to pass it down, it can still look as good as new. The only challenge with the Britax Frontier is choosing the color that will best match your car’s interior.
